Bahrain Shipyard Upgrades to Entel HX485 to Aid Expansion
Bahrain's leading shipyard, ASRY, has invested in the Entel HX485 compact advanced signalling portable to help meet its rigorous health & safety policies as it expands its floating and dry dock facilities in Al Hidd. Supplied by authorised Bahrainian Entel dealer, UCO, the HX485's will be integral to ASRY's commitment to remain at the forefront of shipbuilding, whilst guaranteeing the highest standards of safety for its hundreds of employees and contractors.
The ASRY shipyard serves the Gulf region, offering modern facilities for the repair, refitting and construction of commercial vessels. Its dry dock, built in 1977, can handle ships with a deadweight tonnage (dwt) of 500,000, whilst more recent investment means the two floating docks can now handle vessels of 80,000 dwt and 120,000 dwt respectively.
ASRY was one of the first shipyards in the world to achieve ISO certifications for quality management, as well as the ISPS code for port security. The Entel HX485 portables were put forward by UCO and chosen by ASRY's procurement office, because with their remote panic alarm, as well as the programmable lone worker feature and man down option, the radios offer flexibility across all on-site activities, ensuring reliable communications, loud, clear audio - and the safety of personnel at all times.
Additionally, the HX485 model was preferred over competitor models for being compact and having a lightweight lithium-ion battery with battery communications, which fulfilled the brief that staff radios must be easy to carry and not run out of battery power unexpectedly.
With 2011 seeing the completion of a USD$188 million expansion programme, the acquisition of the Entel HX485 radios has been a key part of delivering ASRY's quality management and health & safety strategy through considered investment.
