Entel ATEX radios rise to offshore Vietnamese oil challenge
Entel's HT983 UHF and HT944 VHF intrinsically safe radios have fought off stiff competition to become the radios of choice, for a major new opportunity to exploit oil and gas off the coast of Vietnam.
The contract to supply was won by Entel dealer, OSB Investment and Technology JSC, who will also be providing Entel's heavy duty CHP950HD ear-defending headsets, designed to complement the radios.
Over the past 30 years, Petro Vietnam has been a major player in the country's off-shore oil industry. However, the economic imperative to find new offshore reserves of oil and gas means that extracting these precious resources becomes ever more difficult. The Bien Dong Petroleum Operating Company, a subsidiary of Petro Vietnam, has been tasked with exploiting new reserves found in the Moc Tinh and Hai Thach fields.
The complicated reservoir conditions present even more challenges and dangers than is usual in such an environment, with high pressure and high temperatures to contend with, as well as a water depth of 140 meters. Production platforms require state-of-the-art equipment and technology above and beyond that found in other Vietnamese oil fields. Which is why adopting Entel's fully submersible, intrinsically safe ATEX radios, with their second-to-none reputation and uncompromising build quality, was seen as integral to the project's success.
Being such a key player in the Vietnamese economy, makes this oil giant acutely aware of the need for reliable two-way communications, day in, day out, no matter how challenging the conditions in such a remote marine environment. With danger an inherent part of the job, Entel's 2nd generation ATEX radios - a proven first line of defence in the Gulf, off the coast of Brazil, and in the North Sea - provide workers with the reassurance of rugged build quality, modern lithium-ion battery technology, and clear, dependable comms.
