Malaysian Security relies on Entel ATEX HT900
Through a local dealer based in Malaysia, Entel is supplying its HT900 ATEX portables to the country's Special Action Force, an elite unit based on - and trained by - Britain's SAS. The Unit Tindakan Khas (UTK) operates as a division of the Royal Malaysian Police, originally formed in 1975 in response to the threat from international terrorism. Of 100 applicants from the military each year, only 20 recruits make the grade and are selected to serve.
Obviously, such an elite unit requires elite communications - indeed, in addition to being trained in parachuting, boat handling and explosives, members of UTK receive thorough training in two-way radio communications during surveillance and combat. With duties including protecting Malaysia's King, Mizan Zainal Abidin, as well as escorting other international heads of state and ensuring the safety of those attending prestigious events like the Commonwealth Games, these guys don't mess around. So when it came to testing and selecting a portable radio handset, the Entel HT900 was clearly going to be a front-runner - but put through its paces nonetheless.
The UTK insisted on conducting its own rigorous tests to ensure the portable they selected met their own exacting performance criteria. The Entel HT900 faced stiff competition from other manufacturers, but won through, thanks to its Military Standard 810C/D/E/F construction, advanced Lithium-Ion battery technology and unique IP68 submersibility rating (5 meters' depth for 1 hour). Entel's early entry into the ATEX market means the new Series 2.0 HT900 portables also have an enviable pedigree - having become established and proven in some of the most rugged and difficult environments imaginable, with blue-chip petro-chem companies operating in the North Sea and in the UK Fire & Rescue services, among others.
Following a demonstration of the radios' capabilities and the punishing test regime they are subjected to during manufacture, the UTK completed its own private and independent tests before accepting the accredited dealer's proposal and schedule for supply. All of which must reassure those VIP's that – along with the HT900 portables - they are in safe hands.
