Entel’s Submersible HT640 VHF marine radio became a storming success in both the leisure and commercial sectors, winning several independent awards since its launch in 2003. In fact, so well–regarded has the HT640 become, that it was difficult for our R&D team to improve upon this radio. One end-user even wrote to us telling us that he lost his HT640 overboard, only for it to be found on a beach, sometime later, still in working order!
The Submersible HT644 is the direct successor to the HT640, an upgraded version of the same. In addition to an even stronger commercial grade construction (Mil–Std 810C/D/E&F), the biggest difference is the commercial grade multi pin accessory connector. This secures any plug-in accessory in a robust accessory port designed to prevent the kind of wear and tear, which, over time, can lead to intermittent audio reaching the accessory.
Like its predecessor, the HT644 is a handsome and ergonomically designed hand portable, easy to use, with or without gloves, featuring a back–lit, very clear LCD screen. It is uniquely IP68 submersible, meaning that it will resist moisture ingress at a depth of 5 meters for up to 1 hour. All 55 standard marine VHF channels are pre-programmed. The Li–Ion battery provides a duty cycle of 15 hours (5% Tx, 5% Rx and 90% standby), while the radio body is covered by a 3–year warranty.
