EMSA introduces e-tagging to MED certified products
Posted on February 22, 2024
The European Maritime Safety Agency (EMSA) has introduced an innovative solution known as e-tagging to enhance the safety of marine equipment.
The e-tagging system allows manufacturers to link their certified equipment directly with the mobile version of the EMSA portal. A QR code on certified products, when scanned, opens directly in the EMSA mobile app, allowing any product to be verified quickly and easily.
Benefits of MED e-tag system:
- Manufacturers make their products digitally readable and visible, meaning that product details can be more easily identified.
- Direct access to the relevant electronic documentation, including the Declaration of Conformity, certificates, and product manuals.
- Validates if the product should still be in service.
- Deters unsafe counterfeit products entering the market.
- MED certified products are visible and accessible within the EMSA portal.
In summary, the main advantages of using e-tagging include making the identification of certified marine equipment easier than ever. Products are digitally readable and visible, meaning it is simpler and quicker to verify them.
EMSA’s e-tagging system is a significant step towards ensuring greater marine equipment safety, providing a quick and reliable method for verifying the validity of marine equipment on the EU market.
Effective Q1 2024 Entel will be applying the e-tag to all its MED certified radios.
