Entel’s expanding portfolio of products now includes ATIS variants of its HT644, HT844 and HT944 ATIS radios. ATIS stands for Automatic Transmitter Identification System, an inland waterway system in use in several countries in mainland Europe for the safe navigation of major rivers like the Rhine and the Danube.
How this works, is by an FFSK data signal being sent at the end of each transmission, which carries information about the vessel, including its unique call sign, which is monitored by marine coast stations which track the vessel’s location.
As you’d expect, Entel’s ATIS radios also benefit from sharing exactly the same IP68 submersibility rating (5 meters depth for up to 1 hour), as the rest of the HT range, together with Lithium-Ion battery technology and a bright, clear, illuminated LCD screen. The HT series is now well-established in the marine sector worldwide, recognised for its reliability and ease of use.
Special licensing arrangements apply to ATIS radios, coordinated via the Belgium Institute of Postal Services and Telecommunications (BIPT), but administered by local regulatory bodies (e.g. OFCOM in the UK). ATIS users will need to provide their local regulatory body with their name, vessel name, vessel call sign and MMSI number, in order to receive a Notice of Variation on their licence.
This is all further proof of Entel’s commitment to supporting the marine market sector with a comprehensive portfolio of products, our new HT644, HT844 & HT944 ATIS models supplementing the already available VHF, UHF, GMDSS and I.S. models in the submersible HT series.
