Job Description

R-D Project Manager – Cambridge

Established for over twenty-two years, Entel is an independent UK based Corporate International Group which has firmly established itself as a prominent leading global player in the radio communications industry. We operate our own design and manufacturing divisions with distribution centres throughout the world.

Our UK-based Research and Development team includes skill sets in electronic the hardware, mechanical and software engineering disciplines. These combined skills have provided Entel with leading–edge products that have successfully established the brand name worldwide.

Job purpose:

  • The R&D Project Manager will be a senior level role within the R&D team, reporting to the CTO. The role is based in Cambridge and will take overall responsibility for all disciplines, coordinating the efforts of each team in order to deliver research and development projects until production ramps up. Initially part time, the role may change to full time.
  • The successful incumbent will work closely with senior management and the teams to understand all project requirements and manage the day to day outputs the teams to deliver on project objectives. In addition, we will require previous experience of collaborating and managing relationships with external stakeholders and providers and to act as the key stakeholder at Entel..  
  • Exceptional people and team management skills will also be required.

Key duties and responsibilities:

  • Own the planning and progressing of the R&D projects
  • Ensure tasks are captured, progressed and completed.
  • Organise and lead meetings with management, R&D, factory & key suppliers
  • Flag risks and issues: propose options and solutions to improve. Team improvement & motivation.
  • Process improvement for the Project Management function and assist other teams develop process improvements .
  • Work closely with teams leaders and oversee work schedules for teams.
  • Motivate, monitor and evaluate performance to ensure that all teams are working efficiently and overall R&D project commitments are being fulfilled.
  • Apply relevant technical knowledge to project manage the teams from a technical and design perspective. Liaise with technical design authorities for key decisions.
  • Must be able to create, improve and monitor systems, processes and procedures in relation to the working of the R&D teams to maximise output and efficiency during projects.
  • Act as a key point of contact with our manufacturing facility to identify and make process refinements.
  • Co-ordinate and manage key relationships with external stakeholders, being the Entel point of contact
  • Understand compliance issues and work with the relevant colleagues to ensure that the team deliverables are to regulated standards.

Key requirements and qualities:

  • Significant experience of working in a R&D Project Manager role.
  • Proven track record of managing multi-discipline teams, with the ability to inspire, motivate and lead others to deliver on project objectives and timelines.
  • Relevant formal project management qualifications are desirable.
  • Target driven with a proven track record in delivering to a measurable high standard.
  • Logical and analytical, with strong critical thinking, problem solving skills and decision making capabilities.
  • Excellent written communication and verbal reasoning skills.
  • Computer and systems literate.
  • Conscientious and assertive with excellent leadership qualities.
  • An appreciation of compliance and regulatory issues would be an advantage.
  • A relevant degree in engineering or related discipline or proven relevant work experience
